Akava membership grows slightly
The total number of members of Akava affiliates at the start of 2025 was 623,924. This signifies a slight increase of about 600 members from the previous year. The number of paying members amounted to about 1,300 more than last year for a total of 483,446. Student membership grew by about one hundred to 127,404 members in total. The biggest growth among Akava affiliates was seen in TEK, whose membership increased by 2,065 members.

Pension reform strengthens financing and public finances
The pension reform negotiated by the social partners has been approved and the preparation of legislation may now begin. Katri Ojala and Eugen Koev, Akava representatives at the negotiations, explain what the new pension reform includes and what it affects.

Veterinarians Chita and Timo Wahlroos receive Akava’s Entrepreneur Award
‘Our goal is for each of our customers and employees to feel heard and met’, emphasise veterinarians Chita and Timo Wahlroos. Their family business, Eläinklinikka Avec, offers a wide range of veterinary services in Porvoo and Turku. Since its beginnings, the company has grown in a sustainable and profitable way. The Finnish Veterinary Association nominated its member to be a recipient of Akava’s annual Entrepreneur Award.

Akava students’ actors for 2025 have been elected
At its meeting on 8.11.2024, Akava Students’ Council elected Kia Kauppinen (Union of Professional Engineers in Finland) as Vice President to work alongside Akava Students’ President Pauliina Ryökäs.
